“Lukas, stop with the fables already!”, is what my class teacher said to me when I was in 2nd grade. “Do you really expect us to believe that some of your family members have swam with sharks?”. Of course I did! It was the truth.
By now I have come to realize that for most urban citizens living far away from any dive spot, the thought of someone swimming with sharks and making it out alive was nothing short of ludicrous.
I am certain that my curiosity for nature runs in my DNA, but that my passion for exploration was nurtured throughout my childhood. It’s a family tradition and part of my identity. My profound passion for the ocean and sharks in particular has lead me to emark on adventures around the globe and lead me to dive in places and with animals I never before imagined to be possible.
My focus lies on projects that highlight the unique stories of the interactions between people and the world’s most iconic ocean species that depend on the health of our oceans, from great white sharks to komodo dragons. Using science, exploration and digital storytelling I want to inspire others to leave their comfort zone and start protecting these animals, some of which are on the verge of disappearing from the face of the planet.
I want to help people get off the couch and do something. Do something that is hard. Do something that is not ordinary. Do something that others may think is ‘crazy’. Even if that ‘crazy’ thing is coming face to face with a powerful predator of the ocean, realizing that we depend on one-another
